Is the Philodendron Splendid Rare?

April 26, 2022

There are many beautiful, unique cultivars of the genus Pleasant Grove, and the magnificent Pleasant Grove flower ( Philodendron verrucosum x melanochrysum ) presents a magnificent sight with its huge, deep, velvety green foliage.

The Fulvous Azalea is native to the rainforests of Ecuador, where it grows in the understory of the forest and climbs trees. This origin allows them to grow in low light conditions, so they grow well in homes without plenty of bright, direct sunlight.

Is Philodendron Splendid rare?

Philodendron is considered to be a rare plant. It has the characteristic heart-shaped leaves of Pleasant Grove, but the leaves are large and thick, velvety soft, with beautiful beige veins. It is a hybrid plant, a cross between Philodendron verrucosum and melanochrysum. Each leaf can grow up to one foot wide and two feet long.

Plants grow to four to six feet tall, but because of their large leaves, they require more space to spread than some smaller hippophae.

Philodendrons originate in tropical regions with consistently warm temperatures and relatively high humidity levels, making them ideal as houseplants. The most critical aspect when caring for them indoors is to make sure they get enough indirect sunlight or supplemental light. You also need to make sure they are not overwatered.

Lighting Requirements

This plant family is native to the understory of tropical forests, so they thrive in bright but indirect sunlight. They prefer at least six hours of diffused sunlight, but they do better when they get ten hours or more. When they get enough light, they grow large leaves with beautiful veins.

Plants can tolerate up to two to three hours of direct light per day, but no more. Too much direct sunlight will burn the beautiful leaves. If you have direct sunlight in all your windows, hang curtains to diffuse the sun's rays or place plants three to six feet away from windows. Too much direct sunlight will scorch the leaves, but plants can tolerate it for an hour or two. Too little light and the beautiful leaves will become smaller and the stems will become long-legged.

On the other hand, too little sunlight will cause the leaves to become smaller and the plant will grow long and thin. Most homes don't get enough sunlight, especially in the winter. If your plants are not performing well, invest in supplemental grow lights to provide them with an extra dose of sunlight each day.

Ambient Temperature

Splendids perform best when temperatures are between 55°F and 80°F, especially when temperatures drop at night, mimicking the natural changes outdoors. To do this, temperatures should be cooler at night into the early morning and then climb during the day. Avoid rapid temperature fluctuations by keeping plants away from exterior doors that open and close frequently.

Relative Humidity

Philodendrons also prefer high humidity, as they are native to tropical forests. They will thrive in relative humidity of up to 80-90%. If your home is drier than this, you can increase the humidity by grouping many plants together, running a humidifier nearby, or placing all containers in pebble trays about half full of water.

Watering needs

If you've ever struggled to keep a plant alive because you forgot to water it, then this Hibiscus is an excellent plant to try growing! Hibiscus and other Hibiscus, Greenery, and Turtleback prefer dry soil. Allow half of the potted soil to dry before thoroughly watering the container until excess water runs out of the drainage holes at the bottom.

Never let your hippophae sit in a saucer filled with excess water. These plants are prone to rot from overwatering and they will die quickly once the leaves begin to show symptoms.

Fertilization Schedule

Fertilize your houseplants once a month when they are actively growing in the spring and summer. A balanced liquid fertilizer or something specially formulated for houseplants are great options. Follow the mixing instructions on the label or dilute to about half the recommended concentration. No need to fertilize in the fall and cooler winter months.
