A common feature of Calathea Roseopictas is the feathered edges around the leaves. Calatheas are relatively easy to care for, but they like extra attention - they like to have their leaves sprayed and dusted regularly. calatheas have broad leaves and are excellent air purifiers. Also known as "prayer plants", they open their leaves during the day and close them at night. Therefore, we recommend keeping Calatheas as a plant in your bedroom: their calm foliage, oxygenating properties and humidifying power will help you fall asleep at night and feel refreshed in the morning!

How do I care them?

Because these plants are native to tropical rainforests, they need indirect light, warmth and humidity to grow well. But if you don't have the perfect conditions, don't panic, it's perfectly possible to cater for Calathea in tricky conditions.

Humidity

Calatheas are native to the tropical rainforests of Central and South America, so they are accustomed to warmth and humidity. If you have a dry home, you can replicate this environment by spraying Calathea with a spray bottle. This is also a good example of "active plant care" that will help you reap the benefits of living with houseplants.

If you lack humidity, you can replicate it by spraying your plants with a spray bottle every few days.

Light

Calatheas grow on the ground in tropical rainforests under a dense canopy of layers that block most of the sunlight. As a result, they don't like direct light, but do need plenty of filtered light to keep their patterns vibrant. We recommend finding a shady spot in a bright room - like a bedroom table or a living room shelf. This is very similar to some of the plants we talked about earlier like Alocasia and Philodendron. As for the details of sprouts, weights, beginning length, check the resource here.

Water

Calatheas prefer slightly moist soil for most of the year, but don't overdo it or the roots will rot.

Wait for the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings. Then, as the top of the soil dries, lift Calathea out of the ceramic pot and into the water until you see liquid coming out of the drainage holes. Do not put the plant back into the ceramic pot until you are sure no water will come in.

Care tip: When watering a batch of plants, place them in the tub to minimize mess and maximize relief. Water plants with rainwater or tap water from an overnight leak for best results.
